Coolant Services

It doesn’t take a mechanic to know that your vehicle’s engine gets pretty hot after a while. To prevent engine damage due to overheating, vehicles have a built in cooling system. This system not only keeps the engine cool when it is running, it is also responsible for keeping your engine from freezing during the winter. It is especially important in Chicago’s hot summers and freezing cold winters to keep your coolant fluid fresh.

Depending on the car you drive, there are vastly different maintenance schedules for when this fluid should be changed. At Excel, we check the level of your coolant and other critical fluids during each oil change.

If your engine temperature gauge is showing abnormally high engine temperature, that is a sign that could indicate low coolant levels. Some vehicles have a service light that warns you when the coolant is low. Other signs such as fluid leaking from underneath your engine, problems with your heating/air conditioning inside your vehicle or problems starting your vehicle in the winter can also indicate a problem with the cooling system. If you experience any of these issues stop by Excel Automotive Repair and we will make sure you and your vehicle are taken care of.
